The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into allegations that a member of the public was turned away from more than one police station while attempting to make a report related to a suitcase mix-up at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
According to a statement issued by the Force, the complaint arose after a passenger involved in the airport incident sought police assistance to facilitate further action but reportedly encountered difficulties in having the matter formally recorded.
In response, the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the allegation. The probe will determine whether any breach of Force policy, established procedures, or standards of professional conduct occurred on the part of the police ranks involved.
The GPF stressed that members of the public should not be turned away when seeking to make a report at a police station.
“Where a matter falls within another station’s area of responsibility, the report must still be received and properly recorded, after which the necessary referral or transmission should be made through the appropriate police channels,” the Force stated.
Police officials also disclosed that the ranks identified in the complaint have been rotated for developmental and administrative purposes while the matter remains under review.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to professional service delivery, accountability, and ensuring that all persons seeking police assistance are treated with courtesy, fairness, and respect. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
