Nearly 7 pounds of ganja found in car engine during Mahaica police operation

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man after ranks discovered nearly seven pounds of cannabis concealed in a vehicle’s engine compartment during a stop-and-search operation along Helena Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to police, the discovery was made between 16:10 hrs and 16:45 hrs on Thursday, when officers stopped a black Toyota Fielder wagon with a lone male occupant.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, during which ranks uncovered six bulky transparent plastic parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems of cannabis hidden in the engine compartment.

The driver, a 32-year-old resident of No. 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, was immediately arrested and taken to the Mahaica Police Station along with the narcotics.

Police said the parcels were weighed in the suspect’s presence and amounted to 6.80 pounds. The suspect remains in police custody as investigators prepare to lay charges.
