A 63-year-old security guard was restrained and robbed after four masked men allegedly invaded a religious organisation on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, early Tuesday morning.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred at about 02:45hrs on Tuesday.

According to police, the security guard was conducting checks around the compound when he was confronted by four masked men. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a knife, while another had a crowbar.

During the incident, the guard was restrained and relieved of his cellular phone.

Police said one of the suspects remained with the security guard while the other three proceeded toward the building.

Further investigations revealed that the men gained entry to the building through a window on the western side. The lower flat of the building was later found ransacked, and an undisclosed amount of cash was reported stolen.

The suspects escaped from the compound. Police said CCTV footage has been obtained and is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

Investigations are continuing.
