Two months after reportedly losing his mother, Linden chef Jamal Albert has died in a three-vehicle crash along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Albert, of Greenheart Street, Mackenzie, Linden, was killed Friday evening following a collision in the vicinity of Loo Creek.
Reports indicate that the accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. and involved motor car PAM 471, which Albert was driving, and motor car GAK 1074, driven by a resident of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown. A motor canter that was being towed by another canter was also involved.
Preliminary information suggests Albert was driving at a high speed and overtaking several vehicles when he entered the path of the towed canter, resulting in a head-on collision.
The impact left Albert trapped inside the wrecked car. Firefighters from the Guyana Fire Service were called to the scene and had to cut through the mangled vehicle to remove him.
Albert and a 39-year-old female occupant of the car were rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex. Albert later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
The female passenger and the driver of the canter were treated and admitted after sustaining lacerations about their bodies. Investigations are ongoing.
