Gold miner, 42, stabbed to death during dispute at Aranguy Landing

Michael John Benn, also known as “Mikey,” a 42-year-old gold miner of Charity, Essequibo Coast, was stabbed to death during an altercation at a liquor shop at Aranguy Landing, Cuyuni River, early Sunday morning, police said.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the murder occurred on Sunday, at about 02:00 hrs. Investigators said Benn was at a liquor shop in the area when he became involved in an altercation with two men, during which he sustained stab injuries to his chest.

Police said one suspect is in custody and assisting with the investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspect.

Benn’s body is stored at the Aranka Police Station awaiting transportation to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is to be conducted. Investigations are continuing.
