A 27-year-old father of two, whose partner is expecting their third child, died following a collision involving his motorcycle and two cars on the Manchester Public Road, Corentyne, on Friday evening.

Chatram Bridgbasie, known as “Tony,” of Lesbeholden North, Corentyne, Berbice, was pronounced dead at the Port Mourant Public Hospital after the crash. A 33-year-old man travelling with him was injured.

According to police, the accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. and involved motorcycle CH 298, which Bridgbasie was riding, and cars PAN 7003 and PAH 1597.

Investigators said Bridgbasie was travelling behind PAN 7003 when he allegedly attempted to overtake it. Police reported that he lost control and struck the car’s right rear section before the motorcycle veered into the path of PAH 1597, hitting its right side. That vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact threw Bridgbasie and his passenger onto the roadway. Both were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where the passenger received treatment for lacerations before being transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Police listed his condition as stable.

Police alleged that the motorcycle was speeding before the collision and that Bridgbasie did not hold a licence to ride it. They also said neither he nor his passenger was wearing a helmet.

The driver of PAN 7003 is a member of the Guyana Police Force. The other car was driven by a 29-year-old Guyana Defence Force member from Whim Village.

Both drivers were escorted from the scene to the Whim Police Station. Breathalyser tests recorded no alcohol, and police said the men remained in custody assisting investigators.

Bridgbasie leaves behind his longtime partner and their two young children, with the family preparing to welcome a third.

His body was taken to a funeral home pending a post-mortem examination. The investigation continues.
