A late-night drinking session at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD), ended in bloodshed on Sunday after a 55-year-old fisherman was allegedly stabbed to death during a row at a bar.
Dead is Elton Lilly, called “Daddy,” of Golden Grove. Police said the incident occurred at about 11:05 p.m. and involved a suspect known to the victim.
According to preliminary investigations, Lilly and the suspect were imbibing at the bar when an argument broke out between them. During the confrontation, police said the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Lilly.
Ranks who responded to the report found Lilly lying in a pool of blood with multiple wounds on his body. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was also found near the bar and has since been taken into police custody.
Emergency Medical Technicians later arrived at the scene, where a doctor pronounced Lilly dead.
His body was subsequently identified by a male relative and taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said the suspect, a 49-year-old security guard of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was later arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue.
