Police are investigating a fatal incident at Dartmouth Village, Essequibo Coast, where a 28-year-old man died, and two children were hospitalised after reportedly coming into contact with an electrified structure.
Dead is Kelton Benn of Ptolemy Avenue, Dartmouth Village. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred on Monday, at about 17:30hrs.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that Benn had gone to use an outdoor toilet situated at the back of the yard. After he failed to return, a relative went in search of him and found him lying motionless next to a chicken pen.
Police said further enquiries revealed that an electrical wire had been connected from the house to the chicken pen several months earlier to provide lighting.
A nine-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl were later seen shaking while leaning against the structure. They were taken to the Lima Regional Hospital, where they were admitted for observation.
Benn was also rushed to the Lima Regional Hospital, where he was examined and pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
His body is at the Lima Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The Guyana Power and Light Inc. was contacted, and the electrical wire was disconnected. Investigations are ongoing.
