Cuban national killed after high-pressure hose strikes him at Providence worksite

Police are investigating a fatal industrial incident that claimed the life of a 25-year-old Cuban national during construction works at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Dead is Yuviosmar Galindo Cardona. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 09:45 hrs on Friday, at Providence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Cardona was operating a high-pressure hose attached to a cement machine when he reportedly lost control of the hose. The hose then swung and struck him to the head.

The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was examined and pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. His body was later escorted to a funeral home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations into the fatal workplace incident are ongoing.
