A 24-year-old Corentyne woman has died more than a week after she was injured in a crash at Auchlyne Public Road, while the driver of the vehicle has since been taken into police custody as investigations continue.
The dead woman has been identified as Reanna Ramkisson of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne.
Ramkisson was a passenger in motor car PYY 6384, which was being driven by 25-year-old Richard Gobin of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, when the accident occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on September 14.
According to information received, Gobin was traveling west in the southern lane of the Auchlyne Public Road when a donkey reportedly ran across the roadway from south to north and into the vehicle’s path.
In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Gobin reportedly swerved to the right but lost control of the car. The vehicle subsequently ended up in a trench on the northern side of the road.
Ramkisson, who was seated in the front passenger seat, became trapped inside the car and sustained injuries.
Public-spirited persons assisted in removing her from the vehicle before she was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital for medical attention.
She was reportedly treated for fluid in her lungs and remained under observation before being discharged at about 11 a.m. on September 15.
However, Ramkisson later began feeling unwell and was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Her condition was initially reported to be stable, but she later died on Monday, September 21.
Following Ramkisson’s death, Gobin was arrested and remains in police custody for questioning as investigators seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
