The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has retained the number-one ranking for Latin America and the Caribbean in the third-quarter 2026 Airport Service Quality survey, according to airport management.

Announcing the results on Tuesday, the CJIA said the ranking reflected passengers’ assessments of services and facilities, including check-in, security processing, cleanliness and the courtesy of frontline staff.

The survey, administered by Airports Council International, also measures the overall travel experience, signage, temperature comfort and the helpfulness of airport personnel.

Chief Executive Officer Ramesh Ghir credited the achievement to the combined efforts of frontline employees, security personnel, immigration officers and airline partners.

He described the continued regional ranking as a significant milestone for the airport community and said maintaining service standards remained a priority as passenger traffic grows.

Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar linked the recognition to continued government investment in aviation infrastructure and efforts to improve airport services. He said these investments were important to providing a positive passenger experience and strengthening Guyana’s position as a regional aviation hub.

The announcement comes as CJIA advances improvements intended to accommodate increasing international passenger volumes.

According to the corporation, these include runway and taxiway rehabilitation, expanded terminal capacity, modernised boarding bridges, automated baggage systems and upgrades to airfield security infrastructure.

Management also identified improvements to commercial spaces and executive lounges, alongside developments in the surrounding hospitality sector, as part of the airport’s continuing modernisation.
