The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) has begun serving cease and desist notices to vendors operating around the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation following a recent High Court order mandating the removal of encumbrances from the area.

According to the council, notices were officially issued on Thursday, May 14, 2026, directing vendors to immediately cease trading activities and remove all structures from designated zones surrounding the hospital compound.
The affected areas include sections of New Market, East, Middle and Lamaha Streets bordering the hospital.
The move follows an Order of Mandamus issued by the High Court compelling the Mayor and City Council to clear vendors and other obstructions from roads surrounding the country’s main public hospital.

Authorities say the action is intended to improve access, mobility and the overall environment around the medical institution.
