Body of unidentified teen boy found floating in Demerara River behind Marriott Hotel

The body of a teenage boy was found floating in the Demerara River behind the Marriott Hotel on Saturday morning.

Police said the deceased remains unidentified, but appeared to be a male of African descent in his early teens.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the body was discovered at about 10:40 a.m. in Regional Division 4 ‘A’.

Preliminary investigations revealed that persons were walking along the jetty at the Kingston Seawall when they spotted the body in the water and raised an alarm.

The body was later retrieved from the river and examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced the teen dead. Police said no marks of violence were seen on the body.

The remains were subsequently taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

Investigators also observed that CCTV cameras are located in the vicinity and said the footage will be reviewed as part of ongoing investigations.
