Body found partially submerged at Capoey Lake

Police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body found on Friday evening at Capoey Lake on the Essequibo Coast.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the body was discovered at about 6:10 p.m.

Investigators said the deceased is an unidentified male of mixed ancestry. Preliminary enquiries revealed that police responded to a report and went to Capoey Lake, where they found the body lying face up and motionless on the lake bank.

The body was reportedly partially submerged in water and was clad only in black underwear. During an examination at the scene, police observed a tattoo on the man’s upper left arm bearing the word “ANIMAL” along with the image of a jaguar.

The body was removed from the area and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where a doctor on duty officially pronounced the man dead.

It was subsequently transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination. Police say investigations are continuing.
