The bodies of two security guards who went missing after an aluminium boat capsized in the Puruni River, Middle Mazaruni, have been recovered, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed.
The victims have been identified as Patrice Grimmond and Kevis Robin, both employees of a private security firm.
According to the GPF, the boat overturned around 16:00 hrs on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, while travelling from Surie Mouth Backdam to Puruni Landing with four occupants. Two, including the captain, managed to swim to safety.
Police ranks deployed to the area recovered Grimmond’s body later on Wednesday, November 5, and Robin’s body on Thursday, November 6. During the search on Thursday, ranks also found two firearms, a shotgun and an AR-style rifle along with ammunition belonging to the security firm. The weapons and ammunition were lodged.
Police said no visible marks of violence were observed on either body. The remains have been taken to the Bartica Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
The GPF had initially reported on Wednesday that the vessel “encountered mechanical difficulties and subsequently became unbalanced,” leading to the capsize, and that Grimmond and Robin were missing as search and recovery operations began. Investigations are ongoing.
