A 21-year-old Bartica man was killed and an 18-year-old passenger injured when their car overturned several times and landed in a ditch along the Puruni Trail in Region Seven on Monday evening.
Dead is Anthony Allen of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica, who was driving motor car PAR 6448. His passenger, an 18-year-old gold miner from Potaro Road, Bartica, remains hospitalised in stable condition.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the crash occurred around 6:20 p.m. at the 35-kilometre mark of the trail in Cuyuni-Mazaruni.
Preliminary enquiries indicate that Allen was travelling east and negotiating a right bend when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car overturned several times before coming to rest in a ditch on the northern side of the trail.
Members of the public removed both men from the vehicle and took them to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where Allen was pronounced dead on arrival. The teenage passenger was treated for his injuries and admitted.
Allen’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their investigation into the crash.
