Police on Tuesday night seized a handgun and ammunition during a raid at Three Miles, Wisroc, Linden, as investigators pursue leads linked to a viral Facebook Live video involving wanted murder suspect Jamal Bourne, also known as “Skinny.”

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported on Wednesday that an operation was conducted between 19:00hrs and 23:30hrs on Tuesday by ranks from Regional Divisions Three and 10, acting on information received.

Police said the ranks searched a wooden structure hidden in dense vegetation and found a black-and-silver Taurus pistol with its serial number filed off, concealed under a mattress, along with six live .32 rounds of ammunition.

During the search, investigators also observed a heap of burnt material in proximity to the structure. Police said forensic experts have since been deployed to the area to conduct further examinations and searches to determine the origin and nature of the material.

Six people who were at the location were arrested and taken to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were lodged.

Those held are an 18-year-old male farmer of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke–Linden Highway; an 18-year-old female of Bell West Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara; a 20-year-old male labourer of Beaver Street, North Ruimveldt; a 20-year-old male of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara; a 21-year-old female of Samatta Point, Grove, East Bank Demerara; and a 26-year-old male farmer of Church Street, Georgetown.

The Linden raid follows a separate investigation launched after a video went viral on Sunday, January 18, appearing to show Bourne inflicting a gunshot wound to himself during a Facebook Live broadcast.

In the same recording, Bourne was seen in the company of other individuals while allegedly displaying a cache of suspected firearms, the GPF said. The video has since been removed from the page on which it was originally posted.
