Police are searching for two suspects after a pillion rider fled into thick vegetation, allegedly discarding a camouflage jacket that contained a firearm and ammunition during a chase along the Linden–Mabura Road.
The discovery was made on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at about 17:40 hrs, while ranks were conducting a mobile patrol. Police said they observed a black XR motorcycle without a registration number travelling south with a rider and a pillion rider.
Upon noticing the police vehicle, the motorcycle reportedly made a U-turn and headed north, prompting ranks to give chase.
During the pursuit, police said the pillion rider jumped from the moving motorcycle, removed the camouflage jacket he was wearing, discarded it, and ran east into thick vegetation, where he managed to escape.
Ranks retrieved the jacket and, upon examination, a .38 revolver and two live rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from one of its pockets.
The firearm and ammunition were taken to the Wismar Police Station and lodged as investigations continue.
