Fisherman missing after reportedly falling into Pomeroon River

A 27-year-old fisherman is missing and feared drowned after he reportedly slipped from a fishing vessel and fell into the Pomeroon River on Thursday.

The man has been identified as Deodat Sarjoo, a fisherman of Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The incident reportedly occurred around 11:15 hrs in the Pomeroon River, in the vicinity of Manch Wharf, Charity Riverdam, Essequibo Coast, according to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

Preliminary investigation indicates that Sarjoo was working aboard a fishing vessel which was moored at the wharf when he reportedly slipped and fell into the river.

Police said the immediate and surrounding areas were canvassed after the report was received, but Sarjoo was not located. Search efforts are ongoing as investigations continue.
