President Dr. Irfaan Ali has assured citizens that his government will deliver on cash support measures, but urged Guyanese to look beyond a single cash bonus and focus on the broader package of benefits his administration is rolling out to improve lives nationwide.
Responding to a question about the status of the cash bonus process, President Ali reaffirmed his government’s track record. “Our government always delivers,” he said, noting that additional details will be made public shortly. “And as I have said, there are a series of initiatives that I will be announcing.”
He cautioned, however, against viewing government assistance only through the narrow lens of a one-off payout. “Whilst you may restrict your thoughts to just a cash bonus, this government has a very elaborate agenda for the upliftment of your life, for the improvement of your life, for building prosperity for you, for building prosperity for your community, for empowering you,” the President explained.
Dr. Ali outlined a wide-ranging slate of interventions that he said form part of this broader prosperity agenda. These include improving access to quality healthcare and education, expanding homeownership, lowering interest rates, and making it easier for citizens to access capital.
He referenced “low cost, low interest, business development, loans and grants with no collateral, access to textbooks, expanding the school feeding programme, expanded infrastructure, community infrastructure, and building out a facility to support women’s health, whether it’s cancer treatment or detection.”
“It’s beyond, beyond. Don’t narrow your thinking,” the Head of State urged. Emphasising that the government’s development plan is multi-faceted, he added: “Don’t narrow your approach of life to just one facet of what the government will deliver. There are many facets of what your government will deliver to you, my darling.”
