A 23-year-old labourer died after he was allegedly attacked by several men armed with cutlasses at Friendship Village, Corentyne, Berbice, late Monday night.
Police identified the victim as Chittesh Sukhai, known as “Rohan” and “Marsho,” of Friendship Village. Two men have been arrested in connection with his death.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 11:40 p.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Sukhai had been involved in an argument with a female relative, after which several men reportedly arrived at the location carrying cutlasses.
Police said Sukhai was chopped several times on his body. He ran from the scene but subsequently collapsed in a nearby yard. He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
Investigators recovered two cutlasses in the vicinity, which they suspect were used in the attack.
Police later apprehended a 27-year-old man from Friendship Village and a 23-year-old man from Limlair Village. Both remain in custody as investigations continue.
Sukhai’s body was taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
