A Guyanese woman has died in Bengaluru, India, after she was found unconscious in a hotel room at Kempegowda International Airport on Wednesday, hours before she was due to continue her journey to Mangaluru.
The woman has been identified as Racquel Olivia Chandni Seecharran, a Guyanese national who had reportedly worked with the local law firm Hughes, Fields & Stoby for approximately two decades.
According to reports from India, Seecharran arrived at Kempegowda International Airport from London aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
She was expected to remain overnight at a transit hotel in Terminal 2 before departing for Mangaluru aboard an IndiGo flight scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Wednesday.
However, concerns were raised after hotel employees were unable to reach her as her scheduled checkout time approached.
India’s Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which provides security at the airport, reportedly said hotel staff attempted to contact Seecharran by telephone at around 10:30 a.m., but received no response.
Employees subsequently entered her room and discovered her unconscious. The airport’s medical team was called and emergency assistance was provided before Seecharran was transported by ambulance to a nearby private hospital.
A doctor examined her at approximately 12:22 p.m., and medical personnel conducted an electrocardiogram to assess her condition. Seecharran was later pronounced dead at approximately 1:08 p.m.
Police were subsequently informed and have initiated medico-legal procedures and further investigations into her death.
