Three Venezuelan nationals have been remanded to prison after being charged in connection with the late-night wash bay incident in Kitty that led to a police confrontation and was partly captured on video circulating on social media.
Erich Medina and Jose Daniels Sotillo were each charged with assault with intent to prevent lawful apprehension and disorderly behaviour. They were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
A third defendant, Cesar Sotillo, was charged with making loud and continuous noise, resisting a peace officer and disorderly behaviour. The three men appeared on Friday before Magistrate Faith McGusty, where the charges were read to them.
They were all remanded to prison until October 9, 2026, when they are expected to make their next court appearance. The charges stem from an incident at a wash bay along the Railway Line, Kitty, Georgetown, at about 02:05hrs on September 8, 2026.
Police had said an unknown caller reported loud and continuous music coming from a motor car at the wash bay, causing annoyance. A police patrol was dispatched to the location, but ranks were allegedly obstructed by several persons while attempting to address the disturbance.
An additional patrol was later summoned, and three persons were apprehended.
The Guyana Police Force subsequently acknowledged video footage circulating on social media showing part of the interaction between ranks and several persons at the location.
Police had said the circumstances surrounding the entire incident were being investigated.
