A 74-year-old pensioner is in police custody after ranks responding to reports of gunshots at Hague Back, West Coast Demerara (WCD), allegedly found a suspected 12-gauge shotgun hidden between a bed and mattress.
Police said the discovery was made at about 11:30hrs on Wednesday, at a residence in Hague Back. According to preliminary investigations, ranks went to the location after receiving information that gunshots were heard in the area.
Upon arrival, police contacted the 74-year-old pensioner and conducted a search of his residence. During the search, ranks allegedly found a suspected 12-gauge shotgun concealed between a bed and mattress in the lower flat of the premises.
Police said an air rifle was also handed over to ranks. The pensioner reportedly indicated that he is not the holder of a firearm licence.
He was arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station, along with the suspected shotgun and air rifle. The weapons were lodged as investigations continue.
Police said the suspect remains in custody.
