Construction worker killed after being hit by lorry along No. 5 Public Road

A 30-year-old construction worker died on Saturday morning after he was struck by a motor lorry along the No. 5 Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

Dead is Steve McAlmont of No. 5 Village, West Coast Berbice.

Police said the fatal accident occurred at about 11:30hrs and involved motor lorry GAR 4204, which was being driven by 27-year-old Joseph Wilson of Glasgow Village, East Bank Berbice.

According to police, the lorry was proceeding east along the No. 5 Public Road at about 50 kilometres per hour when McAlmont reportedly ran from north to south onto the bridge linking No. 5 and No. 4 Villages.

Police said he ended up in the path of the lorry and was struck. The impact reportedly dragged McAlmont for about 40 feet from the point of collision into No. 4 Village.

Public-spirited persons rushed to his assistance and took him to the Bath Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
