A suspected 9mm warhead was found near a motor bus attached to the Office of the President after a police rank reportedly heard what sounded like a gunshot in the area on Friday night.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said it is probing the discharge of a loaded firearm, which occurred at about 21:15hrs on Friday, in the vicinity of the Office of the President, Georgetown.
According to police, a rank who was on duty at the location reportedly heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the direction of the Square of the Revolution.
During checks within the compound, police observed an indentation with surrounding cracks on the windscreen of a motor bus attached to the Office of the President.
The bus was parked on the northeastern side of the compound, facing south.
Police said a suspected 9mm warhead was found on the ground in front of the bus and has been lodged pending examination. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and several persons have been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigations are continuing.
