Businesswoman robbed of $9M outside Springlands financial institution

A 31-year-old businesswoman was robbed of more than $9 million in cash after she was allegedly attacked while walking toward a financial institution at Springlands, Corriverton, Berbice, on Thursday.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the occurred at about 12:45hrs within the compound of the financial institution.

The victim, who is from No. 50 Village, Corentyne, had reportedly arrived at the location with a small suitcase containing $9 million. She also had a shoulder bag containing $15,040 and an iPhone 17 Pro Max.

According to police, the businesswoman was walking toward the financial institution when she was allegedly confronted by a man who tugged at her shoulder bag.

Police said the suspect also pressed an object against her waist and threatened to shoot her. The woman reportedly became fearful and released the suitcase. The suspect then relieved her of the shoulder bag before escaping.

He later joined another man who was waiting on a motorcycle, and the two rode away in a southern direction.

Police said CCTV cameras were seen in the area, and footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
