A road dispute at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD), escalated into a firearm incident Saturday afternoon after a businessman allegedly pulled a gun on a construction worker during an argument.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the alleged incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. along the Pouderoyen Public Road. The matter involved a 28-year-old construction worker of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), and a 38-year-old businessman of Pouderoyen.
According to preliminary investigations, the construction worker was driving along the Pouderoyen Public Road when he encountered the businessman, who was on a motorcycle.
Police said an incident occurred between the two road users, leading to an argument.
During the altercation, the businessman allegedly drew a firearm, pointed it in the direction of the 28-year-old man and made a threat, causing the construction worker to fear for his life.
Acting on information received, police later contacted the businessman, informed him of the allegation and arrested him.
Investigators said the firearm involved was a licensed .32 Taurus pistol, for which the businessman is the licensed firearm holder.
The weapon, along with a magazine containing 11 live .32 rounds of ammunition, was lodged pending investigation.
Police said CCTV cameras were seen in the area and footage has already been reviewed. The businessman remains in police custody as investigations continue.
