A 77-year-old businessman from Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), died on Saturday night after he was struck by a motor car while riding an electric cycle.
Dead is Kundal Persaud, a shop owner of Lot 51 Bacchus Street, Rosignol Village.
Police said the fatal collision occurred at about 22:15hrs. At the time, Persaud was riding his electric cycle when a motor car, reportedly driven by a 25-year-old man of Canefield Settlement, East Canje, allegedly went out of control and collided with him.

As a result of the impact, Persaud was flung onto the roadway, where he sustained several injuries.
Public-spirited citizens, along with a police officer, assisted in taking him to the Bath Regional Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
Persaud’s son, Arnold, told reporters that relatives were informed of the accident shortly after it occurred. He said that by the time he arrived at the scene, his father had already been taken to the hospital.
Arnold claimed that the impact left his father’s electric cycle trapped beneath the motor car. He also alleged that the driver attempted to leave the area but was prevented from doing so by residents, who later directed him to the Blairmont Police Station.
The grieving son said the family is devastated by Persaud’s death and is hoping for a thorough investigation.
“We want justice for our father,” he said. The driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.
