Police have arrested a 20-year-old construction worker following the fatal stabbing of 27-year-old labourer Naresh Seecharran, called “Cat Man,” during an alleged drinking spree at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
The incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Seecharran, of Glasgow, East Bank Berbice, and the suspect, who is from Lochaber, East Canje, Berbice, were among a group of persons consuming alcohol and playing music when an argument broke out between them.
Police said the argument escalated into a scuffle, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Seecharran to the left side of his neck. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Seecharran was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor. Police said his body was examined, and a stab wound was observed to the left side of the neck.
Acting on information received, ranks later contacted and arrested the suspect at Number 19 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. He was escorted to the Whim Police Station, where he remains in custody.
Seecharran’s body has since been taken to the Ramoo Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
