A 45-year-old construction worker lost his life on Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a car along the Reliance Public Road on the Essequibo Coast.
Dead is Satesh Persaud of Reliance Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast. The fatal crash occurred around 13:30hrs on June 27, 2026, and involved motor car PAM 8929, driven by a 46-year-old man of Coffee Grove, and motorcycle CM 2631, which Persaud was riding.
Police said the car was heading south along the eastern driving lane of the Reliance Public Road when Persaud reportedly rode out from an access road on the western side of the main road.
Initial enquiries revealed that Persaud was attempting to cross the public road to enter an access street on the eastern side when he ended up in the path of the oncoming car.
The impact sent Persaud crashing onto the roadway, where he sustained serious head injuries.
Public-spirited citizens rushed to his aid and transported him, unconscious, to the Lima Regional Hospital. However, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
His body was later taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said a breathalyser test conducted on the driver found 48 micrograms of alcohol in his breath. He has since been taken into police custody as investigators continue their probe into the fatal crash.
