A police corporal attached to Regional Police Division Three’s Traffic Department was injured on Sunday after a car reportedly made a U-turn into the path of his force motorcycle along Hague Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the serious accident occurred at about 12:03 p.m. and involved Force motorcycle CR 6252 and motor car PPP 758.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the motor car, driven by a 39-year-old man of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was stationary on the northern side of the road facing east when the driver allegedly attempted a U-turn across the roadway.
Police said the vehicle then collided with the force motorcycle, which was proceeding east along the northern side of Hague Public Road.
As a result of the impact, the police corporal was flung over the car and landed on the road surface, sustaining injuries to his body. Public-spirited citizens reportedly rushed to assist and transported the injured rank, who was said to be conscious, to the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
He was later seen and examined by a doctor on duty before being transferred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical attention.
Police said a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motor car and no trace of alcohol was found in his breath. The driver is in police custody, assisting with investigations.
