Two Cuban nationals have been charged with offences under the Trafficking in Persons Act and were on Friday granted bail when they appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The accused are Raudel Valverde and Yenifer María Quevedo Millán. Valverde was charged with unlawful withholding of documents and recruiting by force or coercion for the purpose of exploitation.
Quevedo Millán was charged with harbouring for the purpose of exploitation. The charges were read to the pair when they appeared in court.
Valverde was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 on the charge of unlawful withholding of documents and $750,000 on the trafficking in persons recruitment charge.
Quevedo Millán was granted $750,000 bail on the trafficking in persons harbouring charge.
As part of the conditions attached to their bail, both accused are required to report every Friday to the Trafficking in Persons Unit at CID Headquarters. The matter was adjourned to June 19, 2026.
