A 45-year-old farmer is in police custody after ranks on mobile patrol allegedly found him armed with a shotgun and carrying two ducks at Lima Backdam, Essequibo Coast.
According to police, the discovery was made at about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that police were on patrol in the area when they heard two loud explosions suspected to be gunshots.
Ranks reportedly stopped and soon observed a man emerging from a rice field with what appeared to be a 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun in his right hand and two ducks in his left hand.
Police said the man was approached and questioned about whether he was licensed to hunt and whether he was the holder of a firearm licence. He reportedly answered no to both questions.
The suspect, a resident of Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast, was arrested and taken to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the suspected firearm, which was lodged. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
