Cyclist, 69, killed in collision with lorry at Lamaha and Vlissengen

A 69-year-old Prashad Nagar resident was killed on Thursday afternoon after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a motor lorry at the intersection of Lamaha Street and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.

Dead is Lennox George Benjamin, a pedal cyclist of Prashad Nagar, Georgetown. The accident occurred around 13:15 hrs on Thursday, November 13, 2025, and involved motor lorry GAH 5884, driven by a 33-year-old man from Long Creek on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry was stationary on the southern driving lane of Lamaha Street, facing west, as the traffic light was on red.

Benjamin was reportedly riding his bicycle west along the southern side of Lamaha Street, on the left side of the stationary lorry. When the traffic signal changed to green, the lorry moved off and proceeded west into the intersection before turning south onto Vlissengen Road.

During this turn, the left rear portion of the vehicle allegedly struck the cyclist, causing him to fall onto the roadway, where he sustained multiple injuries. Emergency medical personnel were summoned to the scene.
Benjamin was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead. His body was later taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The lorry driver has since been taken into custody as investigations continue.
