Police are probing the disappearance of seven firearms and 68 rounds of ammunition from the arms room at the Cove and John Police Station, with a sergeant already taken into custody as the investigation intensifies.
In a statement on Sunday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the missing weapons were discovered on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, during checks and a follow-up audit of exhibits and firearms lodged at the station in Regional Division 4 ‘C’.
According to police, the missing cache includes four 9mm pistols and three .32 pistols, along with 68 rounds of ammunition. The Force said after the initial discovery, further checks were carried out, but the firearms and ammunition could not be found.
The matter was then reported through the chain of command, and the Office of Professional Responsibility has since launched an investigation. Police said several statements have already been taken and relevant records extracted as part of the ongoing probe.
A sergeant attached to the station has been arrested in connection with the matter and remains in custody.
The Police Force said all necessary investigative and operational steps are being pursued to account for and recover the missing weapons and ammunition.
