A 30-year-old accountant is in critical condition after he was stabbed several times during an armed robbery at the Kitty Seawall in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police said the attack occurred at about 2:50 a.m. and involved two male victims, a 25-year-old accountant of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), and a 30-year-old accountant of Eccles New Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

According to preliminary investigations, the two men were walking west along the southern side of the Kitty Seawall Road when they were confronted by two identifiable males who had reportedly been sitting on the seawall.

Police said one of the suspects was armed with a knife. The suspects allegedly approached the men and demanded money. During the confrontation, one of the victims reportedly pushed the armed suspect and tried to run away.

Investigators said he was chased, fell to the ground, and was stabbed several times. The two suspects then fled the scene on foot in an eastern direction along the seawall road.

Police later arrived and escorted both victims to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The injured accountant was examined by a doctor and admitted as a patient. Police said he sustained a stab wound to the right side of his chest and remains in critical condition.

With the assistance of cameras from the Government of Guyana’s Safe City Initiative, police said one suspect, a 24-year-old mason of C Field, Sophia, was arrested and is now in custody assisting with investigations.

Efforts are continuing to locate the second suspect.
