Member of Parliament for the We Invest In Nationhood (WIN), Odessa Primus has been served with a legal demand over comments she allegedly made on social media concerning former Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton.

The demand was issued by attorney-at-law Dexter Smartt, who is representing Norton, and centres on a Facebook post published on Primus’ personal page on January 30, 2026. In the letter, Norton’s legal team claims the statements were false, malicious, and defamatory.

According to the correspondence, the post suggested that Norton had accepted money from Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo. Norton’s attorneys have denied that allegation outright.

They maintain that the claims have seriously undermined Norton’s reputation in Guyana and beyond, and could also affect his future career prospects, including opportunities in academia.

The letter states that, as a longstanding political figure associated with the People’s National Congress Reform and A Partnership for National Unity, Norton’s standing has been placed at risk by the publication.

Primus is also accused of making the claims without presenting any evidence to support them.

Norton’s lawyers are demanding that she delete the post, issue a public apology through the same platform used to publish the allegation, and pay $500,000 in damages.

She has been given 24 hours to meet those demands. If she fails to do so, the letter says court action will follow.
