The family of David Oliver Mentore is appealing to the public for answers after the motorcyclist died following a late-night accident near the roundabout leading to the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge from Heroes Highway.
In a social media post, Mentore’s cousin, Ćia Dillon, said he left home on his motorcycle at about 11:30 pm on Wednesday, March 11, and never returned.
According to the post, Mentore’s mother received a call from an unknown number at around 4:00 am on Thursday, March 12, informing her that he had been involved in an accident. The family said police later told her that David died before reaching the hospital.
However, the family said the situation became even more troubling when Mentore’s mother arrived at the hospital and was allegedly told by a nurse that he had spoken before his death.
The nurse reportedly said Mentore identified himself as “David Mentore” and provided the only phone number he could remember, his mother’s number.
That account has left relatives with what they described as many unanswered questions and no clear explanation about what happened in the aftermath of the crash.
The family is now asking whether anyone witnessed an accident at the roundabout just before heading toward the Demerara River Bridge from Heroes Highway, or whether there may have been surveillance cameras in the area that captured the incident.
They also said it was unusual that no photos, videos, or social media posts related to the accident have surfaced, describing the circumstances as strange, confusing, and deeply distressing.
Mentore’s relatives are urging anyone with information or anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward as they continue to search for answers surrounding his death.
