An overnight fire that ripped through two homes at Bee Hive Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has left one man feared dead after human remains were discovered in the ashes.
The incident reportedly occurred between 23:50 hrs on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, and 01:00 hrs on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Destroyed in the blaze were the home of 62-year-old Davanand Sawh, called “Cheow,” who was unemployed, and the house of 64-year-old farmer Vidishwar Ramkissoon. Both men are from Bee Hive Village.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ranks who visited the scene found both buildings completely destroyed by fire. The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) also responded and extinguished the blaze.
After the fire was brought under control, searches were carried out in the debris, and what appeared to be human remains were discovered on the premises. Police said the remains are suspected to be those of Sawh.
The remains were later escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting a post-mortem examination. No other injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing.
