The body of 24-year-old security guard Vishal Miguel was discovered in a river at Unity, East Bank Essequibo, on Wednesday morning.
According to family members, Miguel left home around 2:00 p.m. on Monday to head to his workplace, where he worked as a security guard on a boat. Relatives said he normally reported for work later in the afternoon but had gone earlier that day.
They explained that Miguel was last known to be on the boat Monday night and was expected to return home by Tuesday morning, but he never showed up.
Concerned about his absence, family members began searching for him and later went to the location where he worked. During their checks, Miguel’s boss informed the family that his boat’s 75-horsepower engine was missing, prompting them to make a report to the police.
Ranks from the police station, along with officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), subsequently visited the area and conducted a search.
During the search, Miguel’s body was seen in the river near the boat. Authorities later retrieved the body using an excavator.
Relatives said Miguel had only begun working at the location earlier this year and was not known to have any problems with anyone.
