More than $219 million worth of cannabis was destroyed on Wednesday, after police uncovered two large cultivation fields and a drying operation at Fort Nassau, Upper Berbice River.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ranks led by a Gazetted Officer carried out an eradication exercise between 05:00 hrs and 16:05 hrs, during which they located two fields totaling approximately 6 acres.

Police said about 250,000 cannabis plants, ranging from two to six feet in height, were found on the plots. During the operation, investigators also discovered two makeshift camps and one drying area, where approximately 330 pounds of dried cannabis were found.
The police said the cannabis plants, dried cannabis, camps, and drying area were destroyed by fire. No arrests were made, and the exercise was conducted without incident.
The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed was $219,416,824. Investigations are ongoing.
