Cattle owner fined after cows roam EBD housing schemes

A 54-year-old cattle owner of Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was on Friday fined a total of $30,000 after admitting to three charges of allowing his cows to stray in several housing schemes along the East Bank corridor.

Denesh Rohit was charged with three counts of suffering animals to stray (Cows), contrary to Section 28(1)(a) of the Road Act, Chapter 51:01. The offences, according to the charges, were committed within the Prospect Young Professional Housing Scheme, Herstelling Housing Scheme, and Farm Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

He appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the charges were read to him. Rohit pleaded guilty to all three counts and was fined $10,000 on each charge, totalling $30,000.

The court also issued a warning, advising him to take the necessary steps to properly secure his animals to prevent a recurrence.
