READ THE FULL STATEMENT BELOW FROM THE GUYANA POLICE FORCE (GPF):
Further enquiries disclosed that on Wednesday February 4, 2026 about 18:00hrs, the crew reportedly proceeded to conduct an inspection within the engine room, located in the lower section of the vessel, when they were reportedly exposed to suspected noxious fumes.
Information received indicates that Brandon Deonarine and Nerwaine Persaud initially entered the engine room and subsequently collapsed. Dominic Alexis reportedly entered shortly after in an attempt to render assistance but also collapsed. Getindra Sanchara then entered the engine room in a further attempt to assist and likewise collapsed.
Emergency Medical Technicians, along with the Guyana Fire Service, responded to the scene and removed the men from the vessel. They were transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where they were pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The scene was processed; however, the engine room was not processed at the time pending safety clearance. No marks of violence were observed on the exposed parts of the bodies and no foul play is suspected at this time.
Investigations remain ongoing.
