A 63-year-old truck operator died on Sunday after an apparent electrical discharge while loading logs at Barakat Dam, Essequibo Coast.

Police said the incident occurred at about 10:30 hours on Sunday, February 1, 2025, and resulted in the death of Toolsie Ram Singh, also known as “Base Man,” of New Road, Essequibo Coast.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), preliminary investigations revealed that Singh was operating a Hiab truck when the boom came into contact with overhead power lines. The contact reportedly caused an electrical discharge, after which Singh collapsed.

He was assisted by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Charity Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

Police said an examination of the body revealed burn injuries to Singh’s right hand. The body was escorted to the hospital’s mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
