Taxi driver busted with over 13kg of ganja on Linden Highway

Police have arrested a 58-year-old taxi driver after more than 13 kilograms of marijuana were discovered in his vehicle during a stop-and-search exercise along the Linden Highway.

The discovery was made on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at about 15:40 hours in the vicinity of Bamia, Linden Highway, during a police operation.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ranks stopped a Toyota Premio motor car driven by the 58-year-old taxi driver of Wismar, Linden, who was the sole occupant.

Police said a search of the driver was conducted, but nothing illegal was found on his person. However, a search of the motor car revealed four yellow five-gallon jars in the trunk containing twenty-nine parcels wrapped in transparent plastic.

The parcels contained marijuana leaves, seeds, and stems. The suspect was immediately arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station along with the narcotics.

The substance was weighed in the driver’s presence and amounted to 13.154 kilograms before being lodged. The taxi driver remains in police custody pending charges, as investigations into the matter continue.
