Kevon Hatton, also known as “Smokey,” a miner of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has been charged with multiple offences, including the alleged sale of liquor without a licence and noise nuisance, following an event held at Church Road, Buxton.
The charges stem from an incident linked to a social media post dated February 23, 2026, highlighting activities at the event.
Hatton was arrested on February 25 and subsequently charged on February 27 with four offences: selling spirituous liquor without a licence, contrary to Section 44(2) of the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act, Chapter 82:21; licensing of premises for public entertainment, contrary to Section 3(1) of the Music and Dance Act, Chapter 23:03; use of unlicensed premises for public entertainment, contrary to Section 7 of the Music and Dance Licence Act, Chapter 23:03; and making loud and continuous noise, contrary to Section 174A(1) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
He appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce, where the charges were read to him. Hatton pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Bail was granted in the sum of $20,000 for the offence of selling spirituous liquor without a licence, while he was placed on self-bail for the remaining charges.
The matter has been adjourned to March 16, 2026, for disclosure and to March 22, 2026, for trial.
