Shotgun, cartridges found in abandoned boat at Number 66 Village Backlands

Police in Regional Division Six are investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition found during an intelligence-led operation at Number 66 Village Backlands, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to police, the discovery was made at about 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Investigators said ranks went to the area and carried out searches when they spotted two unidentified men in a boat. The men reportedly escaped into nearby bushes.

Police said a search was then conducted on the abandoned boat, during which a suspected 16-gauge shotgun and 12 matching cartridges were found.

A 47-year-old labourer of Number 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was arrested during the operation and is currently assisting investigators.

The firearm and ammunition have since been secured and lodged. Police investigations are ongoing.
