Security guard, 37, held after 9mm pistol, 3 rounds found during Plaisance operation

A 37-year-old security guard is in police custody after he was found with a 9mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Thursday night.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the discovery was made at about 19:30h when ranks on motorcycle patrol went to a supermarket in Plaisance and observed the security guard on duty with what appeared to be a firearm tucked into the front waistband of his pants.

The man was approached and questioned, during which police found a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing three live 9mm rounds in his possession.

Police said the suspect told investigators he does not hold a firearm licence or permit. The 37-year-old, of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were processed and lodged pending further investigations.

He remains in police custody as the probe continues.
