Attorney Eusi Anderson, representing Member of Parliament for the We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) party, Odessa Primus, has rejected allegations that his client defamed former Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton, insisting that no apology or compensation will be offered in response to the legal demand sent by Norton’s attorneys.

In a letter dated March 17, 2026, and addressed to attorney Dexter Smartt, Anderson said Primus had retained his chambers to respond to the allegations and maintained that the interpretation being placed on her January 30 Facebook post was flawed.

According to Anderson, the only sentence in the post that could possibly be linked to Norton was a question which read: “Tell your people who collecting Bharat money?” He argued that the wording was interrogative and did not amount to a direct statement that Norton had collected money from anyone.

Anderson also questioned the basis of the claim, arguing that the post did not specifically identify Aubrey Norton as the person being accused, nor did it clearly define who “Bharat” referred to.

He suggested instead that Primus’ statement was a call for accountability and transparency regarding who may be benefiting from “Bharat,” whether that referred to a person or the State.

The attorney was sharply critical of Norton’s legal team’s interpretation of the post, describing it as a “linguistic postmortem” and saying the conclusions drawn from the statement could not be sustained.

He made it clear in the correspondence that Primus would not comply with the demands outlined in Norton’s letter, stating: “there shall be no apology or compensation from my Client to yours.”

The response comes after Norton, through his attorney Dexter Smartt, demanded that Primus remove the social media post, issue a public apology, and pay $500,000 in compensation over what he said were false and malicious claims that damaged his reputation.
